Cielos Events | Cosmic Opera

An opera begins long before the curtain goes up; It starts with the hum of our imagination, first tuning its strings. It then compounds with a bustle of anticipation, that blends both the audience and artists, into a world of wonderful vibrations. It pops at the pluck of the first note, and lures everyone in its midst, into awareness. The symphony of emotions created within us, lives on long after the curtain comes down, resonating in the collective body, celebrating what we've become.

Cosmic Opera is an experiential journey inspired by the artistic harmonizing of mediums including; music, theater, gastronomy, wellness and community.  This is the story of “Cosmic Opera.”

We invite you to join our collective, for a 3-day event in the high desert, at our 40 acre playground, which is the premier venue of Cielos.

ABOUT THE ARTISTS:

LACY ROSE is a classically trained vocalist, composer and lyric poet based in New York. With her Starling Quartet, Rose has performed her Baroque Cabaret at venues such as the McKittrick Hotel (home of “Sleep No More”), National Sawdust, the TANK, Owl Music Parlor, and HERE Arts Center. She is adapting Clarice Lispector’s THE PASSION ACCORDING TO G.H. into an opera with director Dara Malina (first workshop production: Mabou Mines). “More and More” and “Sure as the Stars,” Rose’s surrealistic standards for the lost technicolor films of the 1940s, were recently recorded and produced by John Agnello (Sonic Youth, Kurt Vile).

HEIDI CLARK is a classically trained pianist-turned-jazz-singer who writes about kids’ fashion by day. She attributes her love of said genre to the 1994 remake of The Parent Trap, which she watched every day in kindergarten, and its music director’s unmatchable decision to have Nat King Cole on the opening credits. With style influenced by Chet Baker, Peggy Lee, and Ella Fitzgerald, Heidi lives for obscure standards! She’s joined by her dear friend Matt Baker, who also happens to be one of NY’s in-demand pianists with regular performances at Birdland and other clubs across city, US, and abroad.

Contemporaneous | Day of Imagination

Ariadne sings in an orchestral cover of Aftertouches, by Kara-Lis Coverdale, arranged by Dylan Mattingly and Zachary Ritter, and Particles and Fields, by Andrés Martínez de Velasco.

DAY OF IMAGINATION is an ode to idealism — a space for the presentation of the most thrilling, ambitious, wildest "dream projects" of musical artists from across the world. Curated through the "Contemporaneous: IMAGINATION" open call, which asks creators to share what work they'd most like to be making regardless of traditional constraints on scale and practicality, DAY OF IMAGINATION is an entire day full of these extraordinary artistic dreams.

This inaugural DAY OF IMAGINATION festival features three different sets over the course of September 18th, with massive multimedia world premieres from artists Kara-Lis Coverdale, Brian Petuch, Andrés Martínez de Velasco, and Dylan Mattingly.

This first DAY OF IMAGINATION was initially scheduled to coincide with and celebrate Contemporaneous's 10th anniversary, and while the pandemic pushed back its presentation by a year, we are overjoyed to celebrate with you now – in our eleventh year — the limitless capacity of imagination.

Join us for this joyous day of the most extraordinary music and art you've never heard.

**A portion of Day of Imagination’s tickets are available free of charge to those who need them. Use the PROMO code TOGETHER when purchasing a ticket in order to receive a free community ticket. If you would like to help sponsor this program, please visit www.contemporaneous.org/donate to make a contribution.
